Become the impactful, valued professional you know you can be. Think outside the classroom!
We need great educators in every industry, even if that's not what we call them. The passion, experience, and knowledge that teachers bring to the workplace make them great project managers, coaches, counselors, trainers, and so much more.
Content Knowledge + People Skills + Drive = Success in Any Career
Why stay in a job that's consuming, instead of finding a career that lights you up? It's time to advocate for teachers to find their best career.
Teachers are an untapped pool of talent ready to make an impact on day one in any organization.
Teachers excel at self-management, balancing diverse tasks and responsibilities with minimal oversight. Their ability to adapt to new systems and absorb information quickly makes them invaluable in any role.
Teachers are expert communicators, able to break down complex concepts and tailor their message to different audiences. Whether it’s one-on-one or in front of a group, they know how to engage, inspire, and clearly convey ideas.
Teachers are driven by purpose, working tirelessly to achieve goals that benefit others. Their commitment to a greater mission makes them dedicated and passionate professionals in any field. E
"It's made such a difference to me to see other people successfully transitioning out of the classroom. There's so much opportunity out there, and it helps to hear from like-minded professionals about this journey."
Former Teacher
"I got stuck thinking employers would only see me as a classroom teacher. The resume training and LinkedIn sessions in the community helped me frame my experience so that I felt confident I could do well anywhere."
Former Teacher
"I've wanted to leave the classroom for years now, but I got lost in the day-to-day of the job and never took action to move on. Other Than Teaching made it easy to refocus on a career switch by keeping it top of mind."
Former Teacher
Other Than Teaching is the #1 career transition resource for teachers who decide to continue their career outside the classroom.
Every year in the United States, hundreds of thousands of teachers decide to leave the classroom and face new job search challenges. From writing a resume, to updating LinkedIn, and even talking about their teaching experience in a way hiring managers can understand, we want to help teachers broaden their professional opportunities while still offering the value they bring to the workplace.
We focus on three actionable goals as Career Advocates for Teachers:
Preparing Teachers To Transition Out Of The Classroom
Promoting An Understanding Of Transferable Skills Among Potential Employers
Connecting Former Teachers To The Right Employers
According to a Learning Policy Institute Report, about 8% of American teachers leave the classroom each year for reasons other than retirement. With approximately 3.7 million teachers in service, that’s 295 thousand experienced education professionals transitioning to non-classroom jobs each year.
Our mission is not to encourage great teachers to leave the classroom, but to support and advocate for those who have decided that their most fulfilling career path leads elsewhere.
We do not believe that there is a shortage of teachers; we believe that the job of classroom teaching does not meet the needs and expectations of enough professionals. We are advocates for educators and education wherever that takes place.
Of course they do!
However, just like you wouldn’t want a burnt-out surgeon operating on you, or a dissatisfied cop answering your 911 call, you shouldn’t want an unfulfilled teacher teaching your kids.
Students deserve to be taught by adults who are living their purpose.
Many teachers have not written a resume since they got their first teaching job. They are unlikely to have been active on LinkedIn or made the same kind of professional connections that other professionals do during their careers.
We’re here to help teachers enter (or re-enter) the business world without having to start from scratch.
We LOVE this question!
Teachers are qualified to do so many jobs because classroom teaching is such a demanding position. Any job that requires planning, project management, evaluation, people-skills, and time management is a job at which a teacher will excel!
